On Monday 9 February, the Associació Catalana de Sommeliers held the Nit dels Sommeliers at Esperit Roca – Castell de Sant Julià de Ramis, with a gastronomic proposal by El Celler de Can Roca and a pairing led by Josep Roca, ACS Honorary Member.

In his remarks, Roca highlighted the level of the country’s top wines, placing them alongside leading international references. In this spirit, he proposed a dialogue-driven pairing, matching each course with one local wine and one international wine. Among the wines selected for the menu was Abadal Arboset 2019, served with guinea fowl with red cabbage and beetroot, in a double pairing completed by Gevrey-Chambertin SSA 2023 (Domaine Duroché).

During the evening, Paula Cuenda was recognised as Catalunya’s Best Sommelier 2026, winner of the 21st Best Sommelier competition organised by the ACS. The association’s annual awards were also presented, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for sommelier and head waiter Toni Gerez; Cinc Sentits (Barcelona) received the award for Best Restaurant Dining Room; and journalist Ramon Francàs was recognised as Best Communicator.
