This June, sommelier Ferran Centelles has made a selection of Catalan wines for Tapas Magazine. Among them, it included Abadal Arboset, awarding it 95 points.
A wine he has chosen because “he is thrilled to be able to drink archaeology thanks to its elaborations in the dry stone wine presses”. He also points out that this wine, “is a landscape wine, delicate, fluid and with notes of undergrowth. It is an example of Catalonia’s potential for fine wine production. An elevated wine from a plot (specific area within a vineyard), for the most intrepid sybarites”.
For food pairing, he suggests Japanese cuisine, “the finesse of Japanese gastronomy with the fluidity and finesse of Mandó”.
And what is more, journalist and sommelier Ramon Francàs has published an article entitled “New life. D.O. Pla de Bages”, in the specialist magazine Planeta Vino. The article reviews the characteristics of this denomination of origin, the second smallest in Catalonia; it currently has just over 500 hectares, whereas it once had 27,000 hectares.
The author also singles out some wines from the region, including Abadal Arboset 2019, to which he awards 93 points. He remarks that this wine has “character and nerve; a certain rusticity. Fruity and ageing aromas, well-integrated into a complex whole, with mineral and balsamic notes. Medium-bodied, good acidity, consistent, full-flavoured, wide range of aromas and fruity”. He also tasted and scored Abadal Cinc 2019 and Abadal Mandó 2021, giving both with 92 points out of 100.
