The latest edition of the Guía Peñín has awarded 96 points to Abadal Sagristia C‑1 and 95 points to Dolç de Foc Flama. Both wines have earned a place on the guide’s podium, which is reserved exclusively for wines scoring over 95 points.
Abadal Sagristia C‑1 is an aged rancio wine that forms part of a historic collection stored in the cellar of Masia Roqueta, in the Bages region. Aged for more than forty years, it is made from a small extraction drawn from four barrels located in different areas of the masia. According to the guide, it presents an aromatic profile with notes of caramel, toasted almond, sweet spices, and old wood. On the palate, it is described as concentrated, flavourful, and well balanced.
Dolç de Foc Flama is Gallina de Piel and Abadal’s reinterpretation of the traditional vi bullit from the Bages region. The wine rests in a barrel from the 1930s, together with the old lees (solera wines) of approximately seventy years of age, which infuse it with depth and character. The result is a wine of great aromatic intensity and balance, with a silky yet fresh texture, good concentration, and depth. Aromas evoke dried fruits, citrus peel, cocoa, fresh preserves, and toasty notes.
Also highlighted in this edition of the Guía Peñín is Abadal Arboset 2021, awarded 93 points. This wine is vinified in the dry-stone vat at Vinya Arboset, from a coupage of ten historic grape varieties native to the Bages region.
