At the end of October, 40 Members from the Catalan Association of Sommeliers attended an event for professionals at the Abadal Winery, in which the Mandó variety was the main attraction. Over the past 15 years, the winery has pioneered the recovery of this local variety from the Bages region as this grape was close to becoming extinct.
Mr. Miquel Palau, an oenologist at the Abadal Winery opened the day with a visit to the vineyards where Mandó is grown. This was followed by a tasting of new unfiltered wine (wine which is still maturing) from the next vintage of this Mandó variety. To round off the session, there was a vertical tasting in which vintages from 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017 were tasted. These wines have just recently been launched on the market.
