During Barcelona Wine Week, Tim Atkin, prestigious British Master of Wine and journalist, and his colleague Fintan Kerr presented their first Special Report on Catalan Wines 2024.
An in-depth undertaking that saw the experts taste over 1,000 wines, covering a large part of Catalonia. While presenting the report, one of the conclusions they highlighted was the great diversity and quality of Catalan wines.
Based on their analysis, Tim Atkin MW and Fintan Kerr awarded 12 special distinctions to various wines, winemakers and producers, including the award for Best Grower of the Year 2024 to Miquel Palau, winemaker at Abadal.
As for the Abadal wines, Tim Atkin MW awarded 95 points to the Abadal Sagristia C-1, also placing it in the ‘Wines of the Year Best Fortified & Sweet‘. They highlight that the wine “is intense, with a collection of dried fruit and nuts on the nose, complemented by salty toffee and polished wood. Huge intensity, with the salty, savoury characters lasting long into the finish”.
Three more Abadal wines obtained 92 points or more: 93 points for Abadal Arboset 2019, Abadal Nuat 2020 and Abadal Mandó 2021, and 92 points for Abadal Picapoll.
