Teresa Jordà, the Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, visited the Abadal Winery and experienced first-hand the research project that the winery has carried out for the last 15 years to recover this native variety . Valentí Roqueta, President of Abadal, accompanied the Minister during her visit to the historic farmhouse and the vineyards. Valentí Roqueta explained the family’s long-standing tradition in the world of wine, as well as the new projects that they are launching.
Since its beginnings, the winery has been committed to recovering varieties from the region of Bages, such as Picapoll and Mandó. Abadal recovered the Mandó grape from old vines located in the townships of Navàs, Cardona and Rocafort. This variety produces fine red wines, which evoke spices and sensations of autumn; Mandó is the pure expression of the Bages forest landscape. It adapts well to climate change due to its late maturation and its resistance to high temperatures.
